Part 1 of 2: Criteria Qualification

Qualifying Criteria

All of these criteria must be met.

Participation in Three or More of the Following Green Building Features:

Alternative Energy Source (geothermal, wind, solar, biomass, low-impact hydro sources) - at least 50% of the buildings electricity from renewable sources by engaging in at least a two-year renewable energy contract
High Efficiency Lighting (e.g. compact fluorescent bulbs)
Soap/Shampoo/Conditioner that is organic, recyclable, humane, or local
Green Roof (50% of the rough)
Convenient Location Near Mass Transit
Bicycle Parking/Lock Up
Building Materials and Paints Chosen for Low Chemical/Toxin Levels
Use of Energy-efficient Equipment and Appliances
High Recycled Content in Building Materials
Enhanced Indoor Environmental Quality
Sustainable landscaping (using native vegetation where appropriate, xeriscape, not using pesticides/fertilizers)
Recycling Facilities for Glass, Metal, Plastic and Paper Waste
Water-saving Room Features (e.g. low pressure shower heads/toilets/faucets, linen/towel reuse program)
Employee training program related to environmental standards (e.g. encourage energy saving practices amongst cleaning staff)
Green Procurement as corporate purchasing policy

Green Staff Incentives (e.g. carpool or transit subsidies)
Use vehicles that participate in Transport Canada's ecoAUTO Rebate Program
Commitment to Donating Partial Proceeds to Charitable Causes
Regular energy, water, waste and light audits on guest rooms and hotel operations.
Thermostats in each guest room
Awards or recognition for environmental initiatives
Membership to a green association (e.g. Green Meeting Industry Council)
Participate in carbon offset programs.
Utilize green energy options
